FIAI President’s Welcome 2016
Greetings and welcome to my first article as FIAI President 2016/17.
I am honoured to take up post of President at a time when the FIAI is gaining strength, not only in terms of increasing membership but also in the range of potential benefits that membership brings. I therefore look forward to a busy and rewarding year as your president.
The 2016 ATC has once again demonstrated the high quality of interest both in terms of audience and of presenters regarding Fire Investigation in Ireland. The committee is now eleven strong and includes two new posts in the form of a training officer and a website liaison officer. It is the committees objective to harness the interest demonstrated at the 2016 ATC and push fire investigation into a wider audience by demonstrating the value for all agencies involved in fire safety, response and in its investigation both private and public of the potential benefits of having qualified, knowledgeable individuals, capturing and sharing the learning gained from these events.
Eamon Gallagher (Vice President) intends to enrol on the next IAAI CFI-Trainer course provided by the UK-AFI. On completion, it is envisaged that he will then become the point-of-contact / adviser for any FIAI member who is interested in obtaining CFI certification. In my opinion, the acquisition of CFI certification by as many FIAI members as possible (at whatever level is appropriate) should be a major objective of our organisation. Eamon can be contacted on email@example.com.
